President Donald Ramotar of Guyana and Ministers from the Public Works Department of Guayana, made site visits to the access road that will be completed in June 2013 as the first milestone in the construction of the 154MW Amaila Falls Hydroelectric project. The Amaila Falls site, roughly 300km from Georgetown, will become the home to a project that will supply nearly all of the capacity used in Guyana, a country of 750,000. Enventure supported Synergy Holdings in the development of Amaila Falls, leading negotiation for the PPA executed with Guyana Power & Light. The project, now being developed by Sithe Global Energy, has an executed EPC contract with China Rail and will require roughly 4 years to construct.
Enventure Partners’ Carlos Pinto spoke with Samantha Loring of ABN Digital regarding power generation in Southern Africa and recent developments in Mozambique’s energy sector. The context of the interview was the 40MW Kuvaninga power plant which will begin construction in Q1 of 2013. More than 80% of people in Mozambique are not connected to the grid, and access to electricity will be critical for reducing poverty as the country develops its abundant natural resources.
